Note: As announced last week Aaron Bellingham has departed on a 3 week motorcycle tour of the American West, accompanied by his father Steve Bellingham and his Godfather Rick Nelson. The original plan was that Aaron would send me reports along with photos as their trip progressed and that I would publish these reports as the Aaron’s American Odyssey blog. A couple things have come up that blocked the plan. It turns out that much of their route is out of cell phone range which inhibits sending the reports. Also, to stay on schedule requires long days on the bikes and, to be blunt, the boys are just plain tired at the end of the day. Nevertheless, I have received Aaron’s journal entries for the first couple of days, along with several photos, and that is what you have here. As you can see, this takes us to Glacier National Park, which was roughly a week ago. Currently our intrepid trio is in southern Utah. As soon as I have Aaron’s reports for the last week I will publish them. Meanwhile, here you go….MA
Aaron’s Journal-July 3rd, 2014:
“We left Seattle around 9:30 AM, receiving a nice farewell from family and dear friends. Not two hours in to the trip Rick gets a flat tire! Luckily I had brought a motorcycle tire repair kit, which we used to get to a shop so he could get the tire replaced. One of the mechanics at the shop had a rotary engine installed in a motorcycle. Wow, how rare! From there it was fairly uneventful the rest of the way to Rick’s sister’s house in Spokane. They were very nice and had two beautiful dogs and a very pretty house. We got to sleep on cushy beds and take a shower one last time before the road and hundreds of miles ‘til our next cushy stop.”
Aaron’s Journal-The 4th of July, 2014:
“We left Rick’s sister’s place early and headed to my aunt (Tammy’s sister) and uncle to get a send off from the family, after which we make haste for Glacier National Park. We are racing the setting sun as we approach Glacier. The sunset was too beautiful so snapped this shot as we headed for our campsite. We have arrived in the Big Sky State!”
Aaron’s Journal-July 5th, 2014:
“We wake up the first day at Glacier, preparing for the ‘Going-To-The-Sun-Road’…”
More to come soon—Aaron Bellingham
