As a human is a spiritual being, he has the rights of a spiritual being. There are no rights for any person or group that are not extended to every person or group. There are no special rights, and who otherwise suggest mean to divide and conquer. As a human being, you have rights. They are not granted by any government or external agency. They are yours because you are human.
You have the right to be. You have the right to know who you are. You have the right to perceive what is. You have the right to know your past and to create your future. You have the right to your own truth and your own reality. You have the right to communicate, to love, to own and possess what you have created. You have the right to create and defend your family, and to give and receive love and communication therein. You have the right to choose your own purpose and to join with those of similar purpose. You have the right to freedom and justice, and a responsibility to create the same for others. You have the right to speak at any council whose decisions may influence you and yours. You have a right to create and contribute to the advance of your race and to the race of man itself. You have a right to the fulfillment of your own spiritual nature. You have a right to your own God, and to relate to that God as you choose.
All this is yours because you are a human being, limited only by your willingness to respect the same rights as inherent in and belonging to every other human being. To have your rights, you must know them. To keep them, you must extend them to every other human being. We walk to freedom or we regress to bondage; bondage of the body, the mind and the Soul. But, we must walk together. There is much work to do, for we are, each of us, imperfect members of an imperfect race. We are prisoners of our own personal and collective ignorance.
But, fortunately, there is another right; and that is the right to learn; to grow in wisdom, and to share what wisdom is earned. That is the path to tomorrow.
We will meet each other there.

Roger Buss was born in 1942 in Seattle, Washington. A lifelong Puget Sound area resident, until the early 1950s he and his family lived in a small house in Bremerton, Washington, at which time they moved back across the Sound to Seattle. Roger attended the Briscoe Memorial School for Boys in Kent, Washington through the 8th grade, and at the age of 14 he began the study of philosophy when he encountered the writings of Thomas Aquinas. Upon graduating from Seattle’s Franklin High School in 1961, Roger escaped the projects on a basketball scholarship to Central Wash State University where he graduated with degrees in psychology, philosophy and sociology. Extending from his keen interest in philosophy and the mind, he became a Scientologist in 1967 and remains so to this day. He currently lives in Issaquah, Washington with his wife of 32 years, Annie. A published poet, Roger has been writing for many years; his works uniformly reflecting his care and concern for his fellow man, as well as his grasp of man’s spiritual nature. In his own words: “My early training was in philosophy, but philosophic insights are often best expressed poetically; thus I prefer the poem, and occasionally the essay. I trust that what I write resonates with a truth you already possess. The race of man is in trouble. Influences mostly beyond his sight and grasp seek his detriment and ultimate enslavement. Let each of us speak and write the truth we know–therein lies the counter attack. The race of man is worth helping. I do what I can do. I write.”
